Lost Hope

We had hope. Luke 24:21

I have always been so sorry that the two disciples walk-
ing on the road to Emmaus did not say to Him, "We still
hope" instead of "We had hope." The situation is very
sad, because in their minds it is over.

Oh, if only that had said, "Everything has come against
our hope, and it looks as if our trust were in vain. Yet
we will not give up, because we believe we will see
Him again." Instead, they walked by His side, declar-
ing their shattered faith. Jesus had to say to them,
"How foolish you are, and how slow of heart to believe!

Reader, the exciting thing to me is that Jesus showed
Himself to these disciples and to Thomas. Yes, it would
have been wonderful if their faith had not failed, but our
loving Lord knows our frame and He is tender even
when we lose hope. I find that when my faith is faltering,
He comes with something that brings me back to Him-
self and to the truth that He can be trusted because--
Jesus Never Fails.
