The Mud Room

What is a mud room? For those who live here no
explanation is needed, but for those in the DC area, I will
go into a little detail. A mud room is the place where
you leave the mud--along with your shoes--before entering
the house. It is an essential room in farming country. And,
since the house has no closets on the ground floor, we also
hang up our coats. This lowly room has no source of heat so
getting ready to go outside has its challenges when the
temperature drops below freezing.

But today, today, the sun is shining and the thermometer
has hit 60 degrees. We didn't have to turn on the heat for
breakfast. I am told that winter can last into April, but I
am content with the gift of a sunny warm day, in February.
