A Heart of Wisdom

Teach us to number our days that we may apply our
hearts unto wisdom--or get a heart of wisdom.
Psalm 90:12

There is nothing like turning 75, a year of the diamond,
as a wake up call to the brevity of life. I don't feel old,
but then I look in the mirror and it does not come back
as a 35 year old face! On Sunday morning the women
looked at Psalm 90 and the verse above rose to the top
and became the central theme of the psalm.

Wisdom: The right use or exercise of knowledge.
Discernment, discretion, prudence. It is true religion;
godliness, the fear of the Lord, obedience to His will.
(Websters 1825 dictionary)

The value of wisdom out of Proverbs 2
Seek it like silver
Search for it as for hidden treasure
Then you will understand the fear of the Lord
and find the knowledge of God
For the Lord gives wisdom for the upright
He is a shield to those who walk in integrity
He guards the paths of justice
He watches over the ways of the Saints.

Psalm 90 includes phrases to encourage wisdom:

Men return to dust at God's Word
He sweeps us away as with a flood
We are like a dream
The grass that is renewed in the morning, fades
     in the evening
The years of our life are seventy, or even by
reason of strength eighty...they are soon gone
     and we fly away.

The prayer of Moses:

Have pity on your servants
Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love
that we may rejoice and be glad all our days
Make us glad for as many days as you have
afflicted us, and for as may years as we have
      seen evil.
Let your work be shown to your servants,
and your glorious power to their children.
Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us,
And establish the work of our hands upon us;
yes, establish the work of our hands.

Reader, if you took a ball of twine and painted the
tip with a black marker, then pulled the twine out
until it was a pile at your feet, you would begin to
understand wisdom. The tip is your life, the pile is
eternity. The decisions we make in our lives
determines everything in the forever. If you have
never accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord, now is a
good time. If you do know Him but are living for
yourself, it is a good time to both seek His will
and do it.
